Hello, wedding industry!

I always said I'd never niche. I was wrong.

Anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes in my presence will know that I am as strong-willed as Sir David Attenborough is treasured by the British public (happy 97th birthday by the way, David!). When I started A May With Words, I was absolutely determined to serve a wide scope of businesses with no clear market. Now, in a plot twist befitting an M. Night Shyamalan movie, the unthinkable has happened and I find myself in a position where focusing in on a particular niche seems the right thing to do.

Since my now-husband proposed to me on Christmas Day in 2020 (story to follow in the next blog), I have been utterly obsessed with weddings. I could talk about floral arrangements, venue styling, dress designers and cake flavours until the cows come home and not get bored. So why not combine this obsession with my other passion: writing? I am really excited to see how I can grow my business in such a detail-oriented market and expand my network of wedding suppliers.

So, how did I do the complete U-turn from being Little Miss Never-Niche (one of the lesser known Mr Men characters) to worshipping at the matrimonial altar? Cast your mind back to the most romantic month of the year. I hit "publish" on my website and launched A May With Words into the world for all to see. I decided to use my little network of businesses, including suppliers from my own wedding, to gain some writing experience. One of those wedding suppliers has become a very regular client, and writing for them has put me in touch with other suppliers wanting blogging, editing and proofreading services. The more I engage with wedding suppliers on social media and the more I write about weddings, the more I feel that this is the industry for me.
