2023: A Year in Review

First of all, I'm back! It's been well over 6 months since I posted anything on my own blog. Forgive any typing errors; that will just be me chipping the barnacles and leftover Christmas chocolate off of my hands. More responsibility at 'work work' and a new puppy have certainly kept me very busy and away from my keyboard but I am back and ready to write.

Second of all, a very happy new year to you, dear reader! Have you done it? Have you inexplicably morphed into an instantly better human being than you were on December 31st? Me neither.

This might be making it sound like I hate new year, but I don't. I actually love the self-reflection and goal setting that it offers (after all, that is exactly what this blog is about), but if anyone comes at me with a "New year, new me" they will be cursed to drink only flat Prosecco for the rest of their life. You have been warned.

But, I digress. As we embark on 2024 full of hope and optimism for another year, allow me to share with you my reflections on 2023 from a business point of view, and a few aims for the year ahead. In true teacher style, I will be using a 'What Went Well' and 'Even Better If' approach. I know. Rock 'n roll.

What went well:

  1. Actually starting a business.

  2. Social media mastery

  3. Making a profit

Even better if (a.k.a. try harder at this stuff in 2024):

  1. Continue to grow my client base

  2. Social media mastery

  3. Exploring different avenues

A few months after starting A May With Words, I found myself naturally falling into the niche of writing for wedding suppliers. As fun as it's been, I've realised that I was having more fun with the business when it was more open and less defined in terms of who I would work with. Weddings still have a special place in my heart but 2024 feels like the time to open my mind back up and explore all the other industries out there.

So, that's me for another year! Ready, raring to go and always grateful for the journey so far. Whatever 2024 has in store for you, I hope that this year is everything that you want it to be.
