My Story

I have always been fascinated by words. Plain and simple, no two ways about it. Words and I were meant for each other. Be it reading, writing (and amongst my innermost circle, talking), I am totally rom-com, head over heels, cliché-using, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in love. Did I have access to a well-stocked library in the womb? Is it genetic? Am I just a complete lexical geek? We'll never know.

My Mum likes to tell the story of how, as a newly-crawling baby, I would find my way to the newspaper and happily turn the pages. Once I learnt to actually read and digest the words, I simply did not stop. I will read anything and everything, and my suitcase weight limit for family holidays was always at least 75% books. So much so, that I've had to face reality and get an... e-reader. You are now privy to my shame. Not because I prefer a cold screen to the delicious feel and smell of paper, but because I otherwise risk spending every future trip with little more than a straw hat and a pair of flip flops, surrounded by the entire contents of Waterstones. Which doesn't sound too bad, but I want to visit Iceland and I hear hypothermia is no walk in the park.

My obsession has followed me into adulthood, leading me to a first class joint honours degree in Education Studies with English and a career in teaching along the way. I am a primary school teacher which is a role that I adore so much that words almost can't describe it. Almost. It's a fantastic outlet for my perfectionist nature around grammar, and an opportunity to foster a love of reading and writing in tomorrow's leaders,  dreamers and everything in between.

Much to my pupils' disbelief, I do not live in my classroom (though it may feel that way sometimes!), and I do have a non-teacher life. I live in Northamptonshire with my husband and our adorable golden retriver named Captain. Additionally, I'm a voracious reader and I work my way steadily through a range of thriller novels, personal development books and autobiographies. I also love spending regular time by the sea, exploring new places and indulging in my other great love: cinema. Specifically horror and 80s, if you're interested.

I see 2023 as my chance to turn my hobby into a part-time freelancing opportunity, alongside my day job. I am passionate about helping even the most language-averse and least creative people to put their thoughts and ideas into words, so why not make a business out of it? I have a talent for storytelling, I'm wedding-obsessed and nothing makes me happier than working with clients in the wedding industry to provide the very best written content.

Anyway, that's me in a slightly oversized nutshell. If anybody needs me, I'll be over here reading!
